INTERNSHIP NEWS
New Internships are available for Spring 2010. Earn 3 credits of ACM 495 in
these competitive internships, which require 150 hours of work over the
semester, and a pre-requisite of ACM 310, 315, or 320; plus consent:
* The Descendents – a feature film by Oscar-winner Alexander Payne
(“Sideways”). Two production internships.
* TalkStory Productions, a local independent production company. Two
production office internships.
If you are interested in becoming a candidate for these internship
positions, contact Asst. Prof. Joel Moffett <moffett@hawaii.edu>. Indicate
your preference of internships; which ACM classes you have taken; your
major, grade point average & year in school; a one-page bio & a one-page
statement on why you want this internship. There will be a mandatory
internship interview on Dec. 4 at 4 pm in the ACM Conference Room, Crawford
202.
Also, the East-West Center is offering a Video Production Internship:
Record, edit and format for Internet/DVD distribution video/audio of EWC
lectures, seminars, interviews, and other programs. They have Sony HDV
camcorders and a MacBook Pro with iMovie and Final Cut Express. Contact

HIFF FAVORITE “PIDGIN” TO AIR THURSDAY
“Pidgin: The Voice of Hawai‘i,” by ACM adjunct faculty Marlene Booth will
air Thursday at 8:30 pm, and again at 11 pm on Hawai‘i Public TV, (KHET).
Several ACM students also worked on this documentary, which too an Audience
Favorite Award at this year’s Hawai‘i International Film Festival (HIFF).
FURTHER HONORS FOR “STATE OF ALOHA”
ACM’s documentary on the 50th anniversary of Statehood: “State of Aloha,” by
Asst. Prof. Anne Misawa, was selected for the Big Island screenings of top
HIFF films. At its initial HIFF screening, the audience was elated with the
announcement by Mr. Rueben Wong that the Lin & Ella Wong Foundation would
donate $10,000 to help get “State of Aloha” distributed to island schools
and beyond.

PNM EDITING WORKSHOP
The Spring 2010 Schedule of Courses is out – you can find it at
<www.hawaii.edu/acm> - and it includes a new course, Directing the Camera
(ACM 375), a valuable companion to Asst. Prof. Joel Moffett’s Directing the
Actor (ACM 370).
ACM students also have the opportunity to earn 1 credit of ACM 390 by
participating in the Pacific New Media workshop “Exploring the Editing
Process.” You can register through Outreach College for the Spring Extension
Term. CRN is 3078.

WIN $1,500 TO PRODUCE YOUR FILM
There’s still time to polish that screenplay for ACM’s Screenwriting
Competitions. You’ll see the flyers posted around Crawford Hall. There are
three awards for Fall entries that will allow you to produce a winning
screenplay in the Spring. Each award – the Grace Abernethy Screenwriting
Award, the Women’s Filmmaking Initiative, and the Indigenous Filmmaking
Initiative – is $1,500. You can submit for more than one award, too. For

POST YOUR CASTING CALL NOTICES ON ACM WEBSITE
Your film casting call can be posted on the ACM website. Send your flyer as
a jpg file to ACM Production Manager Gregg Ambrosius <ambrosiu@hawaii.edu> a
week before the call date, and it will go up for all to see.
Remember, no flyers should be posted on the glass on the front and back
entrance doors to Crawford Hall. They’ll be taken down, pronto.
