Academy for Creative Media Seeks Faculty Specialist in New Media and Program Outreach

Associate Specialist, University of Hawai'i at Manoa Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Academy for Creative Media, tenure track, full-time, 11-month position, to begin 1/1/09 and is contingent on position clearance and funding. The Academy seeks an Associate Specialist to: (1) Develop, support and contribute to the teaching of a curricular program in New Media, including web design utilizing multi-media construction, Flash and other formats of digital animation. This program will stress multiple theoretical, critical, historical, and technical approaches in the study, design, application and distribution of Internet-based digital media creations. (2) Coordinate the Academy's outreach and special programs that connect ACM with other campuses - within the UH system, nationally and internationally - with Hawai'i secondary schools, and with the local and professional community. (3) Coordinate and Conduct Program Assessment. The Academy places an emphasis on Asian, Asian American, Hawaiian and Oceanic cultural intersections, representations and productions and expects the successful applicant's academic and professional background to reflect and resonate with it.

Duties: Develop web-based programs for New Media curriculum, application and outreach; support and contribute to teaching and faculty research in New Media; develop and support outreach programs; form and enhance relationships with creative media institutions and programs locally, nationally and internationally; coordinate research into, and conduct, Program Assessments in accordance with university and WASC guidelines; engage in grant writing and administration; advise and mentor undergraduate students; and perform university and professional service.

Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. or earned terminal degree in appropriate and related field; demonstrated experience in (1) curriculum development, application, and teaching of New Media; (2) use of New Media in research/program development; (3) outreach programs; (4) Program Assessment; as well as (5) a record of scholarship; (6) suitability, collegiality and enthusiasm for creating and participating in programs across disciplines in a highly collaborative curriculum; (7) attentive to issues of race, gender and diversity.

Desirable qualifications: Strong national and/or international record of professional accomplishments; experience in graphic design; experience in academic administration and program building; experience with cinematic and digital media oriented institutions and/or other programs drawing together artistic, critical and professional media perspectives in intercultural and international arenas.
