ACM Update #7 SPRING 2007
April 19, 2007

Aloha students and friends of the Academy for Creative Media.

DON'T FORGET ROY ON FRIDAY...

Before getting into updates on internships (LOST!) and scholarships ($$!), don't forget ACM/Shidler Family Foundation's Master Class with ROY DISNEY, a master of the animated film, Friday (April 20) at 5 pm in the Architecture Auditorium. It looks like it will be SRO, so rsvp with Lily Ching, 956-7736.

...AND OUR MASTER CLASS IN AUGMENTED REALITY MONDAY

Three educational leaders from MIT and Harvard will give ACM, Computer Science and Futures Studies students a presentation on Augmenting learning through location-aware handheld technology. See how the real and virtual can come together to create challengin, exciting and authentic experiences. Monday (April 23) 5-6:30 pm in KUY 306. Thanks to Aloha Island, Inc. for making this Master Class possible.

LOST INTERNSHIPS RENEWED FOR FALL

Producers of the ABC made-in-Hawai'i hit show LOST have enjoyed our ACM interns so much they want to renew internship program for Fall. Three credits of ACM 495 are available. Students must be willing to work one LONG day each week in various production capacities. For information and instructor permission, contact Asst. Prof. Joel Moffett at 956-3353 or moffett@hawaii.edu.

Other Internship Opportunities:

WE'VE COME THIS FAR BY FAITH, a documentary on African Americans in Hawai'i is seeking interns now for archival research and clearances, and PA positions over the summer when production resumes. ACM 495 Internship credit is available for working on this film, by Miles Jackson and Steve Okino. For information, contact Miles Jackson at 239-8943 or jackson@hawaii.edu. Have a resume ready.

Hawaiian Airlines is starting a streaming video channel on their website for employees. They'd like to have ACM students produce short documentary pieces on various employees, departments, etc. Sort of a "day in the life" kind of approach. ACM 495 Internship credit is available for working on this project, or ACM 499 Directed Study credit. Contact ACM Chairman Tom Brislin tbrislin@hawaii.edu if you're interested.

MASTER CLASS COURSE FOR FALL 2007

ACM will offer several new courses for FALL, including 3D Character Animation (ACM 316); Drawing for Animation (ACM 318); and Techniques in Creative Media (ACM 386), which will focus on editing.

A special class - HIGHLY recommended for all majors - is our "Topics" course (ACM 385) that will take the form of a semester-long MASTER CLASS. Asst. Prof. Konrad Ng will put together a series of guest presentations by major filmmakers and film screenings/discussions every Friday from 2:30-5:20. You know the high quality of ACM Master Class offerings, which have included such luminaries as Cameron Crowe, Justin Lin, Bryan Singer, Kal Penn, and (April 20) Roy Disney. Now you can enjoy them and get 3 credits, too.
