INTERNSHIPS FOR SPRING 07
Your ACM faculty is ironing out details for several professional internship
possibilities for Spring Semester. We'll post the opportunities by email as
they arise.
One available now is working with Making Waves Films on a documentary about
the late U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink, the first woman of color in Congress and
driving force behind Title IX, the landmark legislation that mandated gender
equity in education. These Production Internships can qualify for 3 credits
of ACM 485. For information, contact Robin Lung, Associate Producer, at
robinlung@hawaii.rr.com.
SPECIAL TV WRITING WORKSHOP FOR ACM CREDIT
ACM Students can earn 1 credit of ACM 390 (Workshops) next semester by
attending a 2-day Pacific New Media Workshop: Writing for Television: Get
Started and Go, April 28 & 29 (9 am-4 pm, Saturday and Sunday). Described by
instructor Marie Jacquemetton: For everyone interested in writing for
television, this two day intensive workshop gives an overview of writing on
a television staff and provides students with an in-depth examination of
writing an episode for a one hour or half-hour television series. Writers
participate in a pitch workshop and receive specific feedback on their ideas
the first day. Day two is a comprehensive discussion and illustration of
the story break process. The goal is for attendees to leave with a solid
pitch for a viable TV series spec episode and clear direction in how to
structure, outline and write the teleplay. For information, see Pacific New Media's website.
The workshop is included in the Spring 07
Extension schedule on MyUH. The CRN is 3699.
ART DEPT COURSE MAKES FINE ACM ELECTIVE
Prof. John Szostak invites ACM students to enroll in his Spring 2007 course:
Genres of Japanese Film (ART 496). It will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from
3-4:15, with required weekly film viewings on Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
From Prof. Szostak's description: This course examines genres of Japanese
cinema from its early silent days to its recent reemergence on the
international cinema scene. We will explore how the visual language of film
can be studied to gain critical insight into the conventions and cultural
mores of 20th - 21st century Japanese society. As an Oral focus course,
there will be heavy emphasis on oral presentations before the class.
Furthermore, registration is restricted to students able to attend our
weekly Wednesday evening film screenings in the Art Auditorium.
