CAMERON CROWE MASTER CLASS - SIGN UP NOW!

Don't miss the ACM and Directors Guild of America videoconference Master Class with writer & director Cameron Crowe tomorrow (Wednesday Nov. 1) from 1:30-3:30 pm in Kuykendall 201. PANEL ON BUSINESS OF FILMMAKING FRIDAY

A special panel on strategies for finance, marketing and distribution of independent films will be held Friday (Nov. 3) from 12:30-2 pm as part of the Hawaiinuiakea Film Festival at the Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies. How do you approach potential investors? What's in a licensing agreement? This is essential information for the up-and-coming filmmaker. Panelists include filmmakers Na'alehu Anthony, festival programmers Francine Blythe from National Geographic and Bird Runningwater from Sundance, local attorney Gregory Kim and Shane Seggar of Pacific Islanders in Communication. Mary Tuti Baker, who is working on ACM's Statehood documentary, will moderate.

The Hawaiinuiakea festival begins each evening, Wednesday through Saturday, at 6 pm with screenings, performances, q&a's with directors, and refreshments. There is a special program of indigenous animated films Saturday at 11 am, followed by a program of ACM and high school student short films.

ISLAND INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL


Cinema Paradise is presenting the Island Independent Film Festival, November 9-12, 2006. Hailed as "the city's indie icon" by the Honolulu Advertiser, we are a small, growing festival showing the most progressive, uncompromising works to cultivate dialogue on the most pressing issues of contemporary life.

Cinema Paradise is looking for volunteers to be runners, box office attendants, ushers, etc. Five hour shifts, one working shift will get you a ticket to enjoy a film during the festival. If you are available to volunteer at the festival please contact volunteer coordinator Selena Makaena at mshappyselena@yahoo.com by Friday (Nov. 3) You chance to meet other independent film aficionados!

SPEAKING OF INDEPENDENT FILMS...

The Academy of Arts Doris Duke Theatre is featuring some notable recent independent films you're not likely to see anywhere else, including:
* Heading South - Tonight (Oct. 31) at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 1 pm, 4 pm and 7:30 pm
* Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles - Zhang Yimou's latest, Nov. 7, 8 and 10 at 1 pm and 7:30 pm. Additional showings Nov. 9 at 1 pm and Nov. 10 at 4 pm.
* Keeping Mum - Nov. 11 and 12 at 1 pm, 4 pm and 7:30 pm.

VC (VISUAL COMMUNICATION) FILMFEST ENTRIES


One of the premier Asian-American film festivals, VC is accepting early-bird entries until Nov. 17. The 23rd festival is set for May 3-10, 2007. For details, see their website.
