SMART Exchange Shanghai – Deadline Extended
ACMʼs 12th Annual SMART Exchange in Shanghai
Your film could be among the finalists ACM will submit for consideration for screening in Shanghai as part of the student shorts program co-sponsored by Shanghai University (“SHU”) and attend the Shanghai International Film Festival (“SIFF”), June 17- 26, 2017. Up to 6 ACM student films may be selected, and human interest films with science, technology, ecology and/or nature themes for the Science Short Film Festival happening at the same time are especially encouraged.
Winning student filmmakers of the selected films will be invited to attend SIFF and engage with Shanghai University (“SHU”) students in film workshops and produce co- productions as part of the ACM SMART Exchange Program, dates tbc. We are estimating a 2-3 week program that includes festival dates and workshop days. Ideal participants are ACM majors with a narrative interest exploring cultural themes.
The ACM SMART Exchange and SHU will cover lodging costs, and thanks to generous travel funding from ACM System, the majority of student airfare will be covered. Students should plan for an out of pocket expense of approx. $600-$1000 to cover individual portion of travel expenses, food, miscellaneous expenses, and visa fees. Any additional travel support awards and amounts are to be determined.
(The Hawaii Int. Film Festival is a generous sponsor of SMART with the reciprocal exchange program occurring in November in Hawaii.) Selected films will need to be subtitled in English on a MOV file for the screening.
