Call for Entries

ACM SMART Exchange Program with HIFF SMART Exchange Support Awards— Enter your films to screen in Shanghai, China!  Up to 6 ACM student films will be selected from the finalists.  Winning student filmmakers of the selected films will be invited to participate as official delegates to attend the Shanghai International Film Festival and engage with Shanghai University students in film workshops and film co-productions as part of the SMART Exchange Program, June 8th to June 23rd, 2015.  The Hawaii International Film Festival will award for each, up to six, invited student filmmakers with HIFF SMART Exchange support awards of about $1000 each to assist towards travel expenses.  

Entry deadline is 5pm, Friday, April 23, 2015. Submit entries to Gregg Ambrosius at the Media Center with an entry form to be found here.

ACM Internships

ACM 495  HAWAII 5-0 Internship, Call for Interns for Fall 2015

The Academy for Creative Media will be selecting student intern candidates for the ACM – HAWAII 5-0 TV Show Internship Program for Fall 2015. (Internship program is contingent on this show in production.)  Confirmed students for this non-paid internship program will be able to participate in on-site experience at the CBS TV show, HAWAII 5-0.  Class standing may be a consideration in the selection process.

Applicants need to be: 

• An ACM major that has completed ACM 310

• Able to register for a 3 credit ACM 495 course 

• Able to commit to a FULL day a week, (a minimum of 150 hours,) per the semester

• Responsible, prompt, motivated

• Ideally equipped with a reliable, own method of transportation

To be considered, please email Anne Misawa (amisawa@hawaii.edu) by May 1, 2015 to schedule an appointment time for the first round of interviews, May 5 and 6, 1:00pm-3:00pm.  Please specify available times for the interview. All candidates are required to email to Anne Misawa AND bring to the interviewthe following items:

Hawaiian Airlines Call for Interns

Hawaiian Airlines seeks a talented and motivated ACM student to join the Corporate Communications department for the Fall of 2015.  Candidates must submit the following items: Resume, Cover letter explaining why you are the best candidate for an internship at Hawaiian Airlines, & written recommendation letter from a previous supervisor, manager or professor.  Please submit all documents to Internship@HawaiianAir.com by Friday, May 15th.  Once selected for the internship, ACM student will need to register for ACM 495 for 3 credits (150 hours) via Asst. Hawaii Media Inc (HMI) Call for Interns

Hawaii Media Inc. is offering an internship for students to learn the equipment and operations of a rental house for the film and TV industry– to operate, test, and maintain production equipment including grip, lighting, and camera gear, and to participate in the loading of trucks and warehousing of equipment.  Applicants should be ACM UHM majors who have completed ACM 310, and ideally, ACM 312 or have been a DP on an advanced production.  Applicants should email a cover letter of interest (focus on cinematography) and a CV to Dean Des Jarlais <dean@hawaiimedia.com> and cc Anne Misawa <amisawa@hawaii.edu>

HIKI NŌ at PBS Hawaii Call for Interns

HIKI NŌ is a statewide program that mentors students on the production of news stories that air in a weekly, half-hour show on PBS Hawaii.  The HIKI NÅŒ Intern will work in PBS Hawaii’s Learning Initiatives Department under Executive Producer Robert Pennybacker assisting in aspects of HIKI NÅŒ: The Nation’s First Statewide Student News Network including assisting in training, pre-production, production, post-production, promotion, social media marketing, and on the HIKI NÅŒ website. TalkStory Productions Call for Interns
TalkStory Productions (TSP) is the premiere Hawaii-based independent film and television production company that finances, develops, and produces films in various genres. A recent feature film produced by TSP was The Tempest by the acclaimed director Julie Taymor (Across the Universe, Frida).  Interns are asked to have experience in screenplay writing, directing, and producing.  Applicants will need to submit a writing sample as well as a short film.  Email John Ching at John@talkstory.com and cc Anne Misawa at amisawa@hawaii.edu to schedule an interview by May 8.

ACM Pitch Day for Fall ACM 399/499  

Friday, May 8, 10am-12pm, Sakamaki D101 – Pitch Day is the opportunity for ACM students who would like to produce and direct an advanced independent group or individual project to pitch their creative projects (short films) to ACM faculty.  Production awards may be allotted to promising narrative films, animated shorts, and indigenous language films at the discretion of ACM faculty.  Sign up at the ACM Media Center with Gregg Ambrosius for a 15-minute time slot to pitch your film and turn in your application by 5pm on Monday, May 4th in order to keep your slot.  Student crews have until May 18th to secure a faculty supervisor for their projects.  For further details, please check the Pitch Day flyer available on the ACM website, click here to view

Filmmaker Opportunities and Film Screenings

ACM Master class with Justin Chon will be held at 4pm-5pm Friday, May 1 at ARCH 101A UHM, co-hosted by ACM Prof. Dan Boulos and Prof. Gerard Elmore.  Justin is the director/actor in “Man Up” and was the “Jeff Chang” in the film “21 and Over.”  All are welcome.

A free Unity (game platform) Workshop will be held at ‘Iolani School’s Sullivan Center for Innovation on Saturday, May 2, from 1p to 7pm.

2nd Annual Abilities Unlimited Film Festival (AUFF), to be held on 6pm Wednesday, April 22 at Consolidated Ward Theatres will be featuring 6 locally-made short films on individuals with disabilities in our community. All proceeds will benefit Abilities Unlimited.
